Lucia's passport photo, from her application that was submitted on 3 September 1923. Lucia filled out this passport application at the American Consulate in Messina so that she could emigrate to America. Her husband, Carmelo, had been in the States since 1910, traveling back to Sicily for a short time and then returning in 1914. So at this point they had been apart for almost 10 years. I found the passport application on Ancestry.com.
A photo taken at the wedding of Carmelo and Lucia's daughter Cecilia. From left, this photo shows Al, Lucia, Carmelo, Cecilia, Mariano, Maria, and Tony. Al, Cecilia, Mariano, Maria and Tony are the children of Lucia and Carmelo. Mariano is my grandfather. Cecilia was born about 1914, so this photo was likely taken during the 1930s.
The 74th wedding anniversary of Carmelo and Lucia, taken on 14 February 1982 at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Hospital in Burbank by the Los Angeles Daily News for a story on the couple. Carmelo and Lucia were married on 16 February 1908, and Lucia was born on 13 February 1888. The couple is also celebrating Lucia's 94th birthday; Carmelo is 95.
A family photo also commemorating the 74th wedding anniversary of Carmelo and Lucia. Shown in the background are Joe and Paul Zappala, two of my brothers.
As you can see, I don't have a lot of photos of Carmelo and Lucia, particularly when they were younger. Please let me know if you have any others that I can share here.
